L'Inferno di Dante.]]> This miniature sheet was issued by Poste Magistrali, the postal arm of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM), a sovereign, Roman Catholic order of chivalry. The set is SMOM issue number 472, "Capolavori della letteratura" (masterpieces of literature), and features reproductions of engravings from an edition of the Divina commedia edited by Antonio Zatta and published in Venice from 1747 to 1758. Each stamp is captioned at the bottom as follows: 
  • "Gaetano Zompini: Inferno Canto I / Dante ostacolato dalle fiere nella selva oscura" (Dante stopped by the three beasts in the dark wood)
  • "Michelangelo Schiavonio: Inferno Canto VIII / Il demone Flegiàs conduce Dante alla città di Dite (The demon Phlegyas ferries Dante to the city of Dis)
  • Michelangelo Schiavonio: Purgatorio Canto III / Dante incontra Manfredi, figlio di Federico II (Dante meets Manfred, the son of Frederick II)

The air mail stamp, designed by Jean-Louis Puvilland, is a collage of images: the 1990 FIFA World Cup logo, the World Cup trophy, a soccer player kicking a ball, and Enrico Pazzi's 1865 statue of Dante in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, Italy. ]]> 2016 Central African Republic postage stamp]]> Beginning in the 1960s, prolific collector and cachet maker John Ranto of Hamilton Township, New Jersey, produced first day covers made from postal bulletins and display posters. According to online sales descriptions by Trenton Stamp and Coin, "these covers were created by hand folding US Postal Service bulletins into a standard FDC size and then applying the current issue for the cover in addition to related combination stamps. He cleverly crafted these covers into mostly one-of-a-kind cachets or productions. In the beginning, Mr. Ranto created these covers for his personal collection, but as he enjoyed the process, he did start to create extras that he would trade or sell. Each of his covers is normally signed or intialed on the reverse side, and also coded, but not in every case."

For the 1982 America's Libraries commemorative stamp (Scott no. 2015), Ranto created a series of covers featuring famous authors. One of the authors chosen was Dante and Ranto used the U.S. Post Office Department poster from the 1965 Dante commemorative issue to make the folded cover.
