The cachet for no. 39 shows <span>Giotto's portrait of Dante, reversed from the original, within a gold frame at the top of which is "MCCLXV MCMLXV". Below the cachet is "Dante". </span>The cachet for no. 39/A shows <span>a version of Sandro Botticelli's illustration of Dante and Beatrice in the heaven of Mercury from </span><em>Paradiso</em><span> 6 found in a manuscript volume in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin known as MS Hamilton 201. Below the cachet is "BOTTICELLI - DANTE E BEATRICE".<br /><br />Both covers share some of the same text: vertically, along the left side: "TIRATURA 600 COPIE - ISSUE 600 COVERS"; vertically, along the right side: "<span>ULTIMO GIORNO VALIDITÀ / LAST DAY COVER"; and in the lower right corner: "KimCover S.C.V." The cachets are reminiscent of Sandro Botticelli's illustrations for <em>Inferno</em> 19 showing the souls of simonists in the third <em>bolgia</em> (ditch) of the eighth circle of hell, known as <em>Malebolge</em>. The sinners are turned upside down in holes in the ground and their feet are aflame. <span>The original illustration is found in a manuscript volume in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin known as MS Hamilton 201.</span>

<span>This series of maximum cards was issued by Stampa Filatelica (Golden Series, no. 104–107; series supervised by Vittorio Lo Bianco) for the Vatican City postage stamps of 1965. The first card (no. 104), like the stamp, shows Raphael's portrait of Dante from his fresco </span><em>Disputation of the Holy Sacrament</em><span> in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. The second and third cards (no. 105–106) show scenes taken from miniatures in Codex Urbinate Latino 365, a fifteenth-century manuscript in the Vatican Library. No. 105 shows a scene from the beginning of </span><em>Inferno</em><span> in which Dante (accompanied by Virgil in this illustration but not in the text) is blocked by three beasts. No. 106 is from</span><em>Purgatorio</em><span> and shows Dante and Virgil at the foot of Mount Purgatory. The fourth card (no. 107) echoes the stamp and shows Sandro Botticelli's illustration from </span><em>Paradiso</em><span> 3 of Dante and Beatrice in the heaven of the moon. The original illustration is found in a manuscript volume in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin known as MS Hamilton 201. Each card was postmarked in Vatican City on May 18, 1965.</span>

<span>This set of four stamps was issued by Vatican City to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth. The 10-lire stamp is based on the portrait of Dante in Raphael's fresco </span><em>Disputation of the Holy Sacrament</em><span> in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. The other three stamps are based on Sandro Botticelli's illustrations to the </span><em>Divina commedia</em> found in a manuscript volume in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin known as MS Hamilton 201 and a manuscript in the Vatican Library known as Cod. Reg. Lat. 1896. The illustrations are as follows<span>: Dante encounters a leopard, a lion, and a she-wolf (L. 40; <em>Inferno</em> 1; Cod. Reg. Lat. 1896</span><span>), Dante and Virgil at the foot of Mount Purgatory (L. 70; </span><em>Purgatorio</em> 3<span>; MS Hamilton 201), and Dante and Beatrice in the heaven of the moon (L. 200; </span><em>Paradiso</em> 3<span>; MS Hamilton 201). All of the stamps were designed by Casimira Dabrowska and each stamp was engraved by a different person: A. Quieti (L. 10), G. Denza (L. 40), M. Soccorsi (L. 70), and E. V. de Cresci (L. 200).</span>
