Description

These first day covers were issued by Filagrano. The "Gold" series cachet is printed on a small sheet of rayon that is affixed to the envelope within a printed gold frame with "Piazza dei Signori / Verona" at the top. The cachet shows a photographic view of the piazza—with Ugo Zannoni's prominent 1865 statue of Dante—roughly matching the view depicted on the stamp for which the cover was issued. Below the cachet is "First Day of Issue".

The regular cachet shows the same view within a red frame with "PIAZZE d'ITALIA" (squares of Italy) at the top and "Piazza dei Signori / VERONA" within a rectangular frame at the bottom.

A brief history and description of Piazza dei Signori is printed on the backs of the envelopes of both versions.
