Description

This postage stamp was issued as part of a four-stamp set celebrating Italian piazzas. The stamp shows Piazza dei Signori (also known as Piazza Dante) in Verona. In the center of the piazza is a statue of Dante sculpted by Ugo Zannoni and erected in 1865. Behind the statue are two buildings: the Loggia del Consiglio on the left and the Palazzo del Podestà on the right. The stamp has text as follows: in the upper left corner: "Italia"; in the upper right corner: "700"; and at the bottom: "Verona – Piazza dei Signori". Along the bottom edge is the abbreviated name of the printer: "I.P.Z.S. ROMA 1987" (Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome) and the designer: "F. TULLI" (Francesco Tulli).
